CURRENT & UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES
Fresh Produce Pickups
We offer fresh, organic produce on a “take what you need, leave what you can” payment system to our Greensboro residents through stands and storefronts in our small town. Produce is provided by Auburn University’s Rural Studio Farm. This program will expand to offer cooking classes and educational programs based on the produce we have available. Our current stands are located at the storefront at Project Horseshoe Farm, which is open 3 days a week. We are building an outdoor stand at the Abadir’s x Black Belt Food Project space in downtown Greensboro, which will be open 7x a week based on availability. This is the first stage of growing a Food Pharmacy in Hale County.
Food For Thought
A two-day event centered around our regional food systems in partnership with Rural Studio and the Newbern Public Library. The event highlights regional farmers and producers, chefs and educators who are making a positive impact through food-based efforts in our region. The event is free and open to everyone. It features cooking demonstrations and workshops. On the second day, we provide a community meal at no charge to participants. The meal is prepared by our regional chefs.
Meal Prep Classes
We are building meal prep classes for adults where individuals with limited access can use a commercial kitchen space to cook meals for themselves and/or their family for the week. Classes are led by Black Belt chefs and educators. BBFP provides ingredients and the kitchen space. This is the second stage of growing a Food Pharmacy in Hale County. Classes will begin in 2024.
